FolkloramaWINNIPEG—Folklorama ’70, a Centennial Folk Festival sponsored jointly by the City of Winnipeg and the Folk Arts Council of Manitoba, will kick-off with impressive openingceremonies at Fort Carling on August 3rd.Dignitaries and twenty-two contestants in the Miss Folkior-ama ’70 pageant will arrive byRiverbuai to aUemi theceedings. Following the formalities, the special guests will join Wirumpeggers in casinos, beer gardens, dancing, and watching an Indian Pow-Wow as Fort Carling becomes Monte Carlo for a week of fun and entertainment.Twenty-two ethnic communities are participating in Folklorama ’70 with sites throughout the City of Winnipeg. After the official opening at Fort Carling, Winnipegers may use their passports ($1.00 at ARP, GoodNeighbour Drugstores and theBank of Montreal; children 12 years erf age and under and Senior Citizens with a Metro Transit bus pass admitted free) to travel by six special Folklorama buses on a tour of each erf the sites.Here is an example of what they anticipate: The Japanese community of Winnipeg is constructing a replica of a tea house. They flew from Winnipeg to Montreal and on to London, England where they stayed for 1 week. While there they visited Dr. Gegg’sbrother. They travelled on to Paris, then Brussel Is and Amsterdam. In Amsterdam they rented a car and drove to Soest, Germany where fhey visited Cpl. Terry Firman. They then drove to Stockholm, Sweden, also Copenhagen, Oslo, Norway and back to Soest, Germany, then on to Munich, Germany and Sakburg, Austria, Bazel, Switzerland. In Salsburg Nick visited with an aunt and uncle. In Bazel he met with a cousin from Norwich and he she travelled with them bo Barcelona, Spain,In Italy they went on a gondola ride in Venice ,thev hada tour of Rome and visited a friend in Napoli. From Napoli they visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pom pie and saw the volcano. Thev went to Nice on the French Riviera and lounged on the beach and swam in the Mediterranean, Thev gave up their ear at Bareehmn after having driven 6,000 kilometres($,000 miles), and travelled Nome by air, Raael to Londonand Liverpool, PnvUwick Scotland then a direct flight to Wmmpeg
