Alcorn bounces back on WEOL radio tonightBy ROGER NEGIN C-T Sports WriterELYRIA — Tim Alcorn wasn’t off the air for more than two weeks before landing aplay-by-play broadcasting position with.WEOL.Alcorn will replace Bob Karlovec, who is recuperating from a broken ankle, ALCORN which caused some unrelated complications.“I told Bob to get well,” said WEOL program director Mike Whitmore. “We’ve added Tim Alcorn, who will step in and work with us until Bob’s return.”Alcorn was recently let go by Oberlia station WOBL where he had been sports director since the summer of 1585.“Pm happy to be going back to work,” said Alcorn. “It was disappointing to have it (his employment) end halfway through the season.”He will start his new assignment tonight as a color commentator when WEOL (930 AM) airs a girls basketball game between Amherst and Avon Lake.“They want to break me in so I can see how they do things,” said Alcorn. ‘I’ll be doing play-by-play next week.”Alcorn and Whitmore were pleased with the arrangement.“It’s not every day that you've got someone at your doorstep who has this level of experience and is willing to step in,” said Whitmore.said Alcorn. “I’m itching to get back into it. It’s nice to go to a first-class organization. They (WEOL) have some quality people over there A couple of them are in a Hall of Fame. Jim Allen is in the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame and Bob Karlovec is in the Lorain County Football Coaches Hall of Fame.”Alcorn will be working with Mike James and Wally Mint us on the broadcasts.His addition will also enable WEOL to work tournament games at more than one site.□ O OA key Southwestern Conference matchup kicks off WEOL’s girls basketball coverage tonight at 7:45.
