Styling in green and goldColorado State a comfortable fit so far for former Buffaloes runningTHE ASSOCIATED PRESSfort collins • Marcus Houston completed his first 6 a.m run, two weight-room sessions and sat through his first team meeting, along with attending two days of classes — all the while decked out in Colorado State sweat gear.“It feels great,” Houston said Wednesday as he pounded the Ram emblem on hisshirt. “I can’t wait to get the rest of the outfit.”The helmet and shoulder pads must wait.One of the state’s highest profile prep athletes must be content with having severed the umbilical cord with the University of Colorado, a place where he spent three tumultuous years hinting of differences with the program over mat-MARCUSHOUSTON:Short trip up 1-25 has running back feel ing like he’s come home.ters ranging from injury rehabilitation to his non-football related activities, including Houston’s own “Just Say Know” program.Whatever the differences, he won’t divulge what went wrong in what appeared to be the perfect relationship of model student-athlete and elite college program.“I’ve had a lot of experiences, good and bad, that I have been able to learn and grow from,” he said. “1 just plan on applying those to my situationhere and being in the situation here with a lot of opportunity and family environment and everything else.”There are no concerns about a partially torn knee ligament that cost him most of last season, nor about endeavors that CSIJ officials find acceptable away from the football field.“I look forward to working with different foundations here in the community and continuing outside endeavors and pursuing football at the same time,” Houston said. “And pursuing it with a passion.Houston is in hot pursuit of another matter — appealing to the NCAA for a waiver allowing him to play next season, instead of sitting out as required of most transfers.“I’ve never been throughthe process before and only know I will end up out there in the fall if it works out,” he said. “I can only keep my fingers crossed and put together a good petition.”He carried a more definitive impression walking out of his first team meeting.“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play for coach (Sonny) Lubick and be a part of this program,” Houston said. “And the common thread I think that has run through this building is that it is a family environment, and 1 am looking forward to being part of the family.“I want it to be a fresh start and expect it to be a new chapter. Right now, I am in CSU attire. 1 think this green and gold looks better on me.”
