Henderson have been appointed to the body of business executives, aviation and aerospace professionals and government officials concerned with the applications of safety and systems management to all modes of transportation.The purpose of the institute is to educate both undergraduate and graduate students forprofessional competence and imaginative leadership in these career fields.To aid the institute in the implementation of these programs. the board was organized to advise on academic and research matters involving the institute and to assist and participate in interpreting and promoting these programs to community and governmental leaders as well as the general public.Henderson is the creator of the National Air Races which annually attracted crowds in excess of 300,000 during the Depression period. In between, he constructed the first administration buildings, hangars andCONCFnJrunways for what is now Los Angeles International Airport.Henderson began his career as a sandbagger” in the Aviation Section. United States Army Signal Corps during World War I. The early American Havi-land airplanes were dual cockpit models not equipped with stabilizers. When a single pilot flew, a sand bag of equivalent weight was thrown in the rear cockpit so the plane would fly right.Ms. Cochran has had a long association with Henderson and the National Air Races.
