Mr. and Mrs. John Moffalt, OronoCelebrated Golden Wedding Jan. 2ndOn Tuesday, January 5th, 1904, in a quiet ceremony at Lake-field, Ontario, Edith Alberta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Allen of Orono and John M., son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Moffatt of Orono were united in marriage by Rev. T. W. Leggott of Lakefield, formerly of Orono. The couple have resided in the Orono district during their 50 years of married life, with the exception of five years in Osha-wa and two years in Simcoe.On Saturday, Jan. 2nd, 1954, at Orono Township Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Moffatt celebrated their golden wedding anniversary when two hundred friends and relatives attended to offer congratulations and extend best wishes.; The guests were received at the door by their two sons, Allen and Gordon Moffatt of Bowmanville. Their only daughter, Mrs. Leonard Alldread (Doris) was in the receiving line with her mother and father. Mrs. George Allen of Peterboro, sister-in-law of the bride and her bridesmaid of 50 years ago, Mrs. Gordon Houlddi of Osha-wa, only sister of the bride, and Mr. George Moffatt, Bowmanville, only living brother of the groom, assisted in greeting the guests.Attending the guest book were two granddaughters, Shirley Moffatt of Bowmanville and Viola Alldread of Enterprise, and the oldest grandson, Russell Moffatt of Weston.The attractively arranged tea-table had as its centre-piece the four-tiered wedding cake, beaut-I ifully decorated with golden leaves and yellow roses. A large bouquet of yellow and white ’mums and daffodils, yellow tapers in silver candleholders andstreamers of golden ribbon completed the table setting.Pouring tea during the afternoon and evening were Mrs. Arthur Allen, sister of the groom, and Mrs. William Malley of Orono, Mrs. Andrew Moffatt of Toronto, Mrs. Stanley Moffatt and Mrs. Gordon Houlden of Oshawa and Mrs. William Mant-ell of Peterborough.Two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Allen Moffatt and Mrs. Gordon Moffatt of Bowmanville, were assisted in serving the delicious lunch by the granddaughters, nieces and grandnieces.Mr. and Mrs. Moffatt have 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, most of whom were present.At the close of the evening reception a presentation of a television set was made by Mr. Gordon Houlden and Mr. Allen Moffatt on behalf of the family and friends.After Mr. Moffatt had expressed the thanks of Mrs. Moffatt and himself, brief speeches of congratulations and'best wishes were made by Mr. Russell Allen, Mr. Harold Allen and Mr. J. D. Brown. • *The bride and groom were presented with a television lamp by Mr. Ray Fry on behalf of a group of Bowmanville friends.The evening closed with a sing-song during which Gordon .Moffatt sang several Scotch songs which were much enjoyed by all present.The honoured couple were the recipients of many beautiful cards and messages of congratulations.Guests were present from Bronte, Toronto, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Peterborough, Newton-ville, Burnt River and Bethany.
