KTTI-FM to replace KALJ on Yuma radioHy CANDY HUGHESThe Yuma Daily SunKALJ FM Kadio will be replaced around Jan. 15 by KTTI-FM. a similar “beautiful music station, according to its new owners.KAU has been off the air since midnight New Year’s Eve and will return to £5.1 on the FM dial as soon as remodeling of the former KAU building at 843 Avenue B is completed and new equipment is installed, according to Jim Evans. the station's new owner.Sale of the station was made last summer, but transfer of license, which was effective Jan. 1, was not approved by .the Federal Communications Commission until Nov. 27.Before a license can be approved, the FCC requires a waiting period for any objections from the public. Evans explained. When no objections were filed, the transfer wasapproved.Evans, former advertisingmanager for KYEL and KBLU television stations, and Kick Kichmond. owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken and the Blue Horizon Motel, have formed Burr Broadcasting Inc. to operate the new station. Each owns 50% of thecorporation. 'Joel Bollard, former owner-manager, said he sold the station “to get out of the broadcasting business for a while. Bollard is also associated with A-Chaparral Travel Service.The sale agreement prohibits Bollard from re-entering broadcasting in the Yuma area for five years. Both Bollard and Evans refused to reveal sale price of the station and equipment.Although KAU played mostly beautiful music, a broadcasting term for easy listening.
