The imponderable and the science fiction of yesterday more often than not turn out to be the reality of today.-Dr. Allen Utke Wisconsin Review. 1967by Debbie Luebke“My family and 1 were on a camping trip and we stopped in to see my in-laws near Ogema. One night my wife and I decided to sleep in our rented aluminum travel trailer, leaving the children in the house,“1 had parked the trailer between the farm house and the milk house, which is attached to the barn. At about U p.m. we retired, but were awakened a few hours later by the unusual barking of our , German shepherd dog. It was about 2:30 a.m. The dog barked about 15 seconds, with the sound going away from the trailer, toward the house. My wife knelt up on the bed and looked out the rear window of the trailer. After several seconds, she leaned back and told me to look in the neighbor’s pasture.“1 looked out and saw a large dome-shaped image with the glow of a flourescent light. The object was shining a beam of light to the milk house, which was about 25 feet from us. The beam was sharply defined and covered a distance of about 150 yards. It seemed to penetrate through one of the milk house walls, stopping abruptly at au open door. The dog had made no lUrther sound after his initial barking and the normal night sounds stopped after the barking stopped.“After what seemed to be an hour or less, we both heard the sound cf a heavy person walking slowly just outside the trailer. The sand and gravel on the ground made the sound distinct, and the walk was that of the type of a two-legged person. We were greatly frightened at this time, especially because the trailer door was just ajar, and couldn't be closed tight, due to the trailer not being leveled properly. I reached for my gun which was in a drawer near the bed, but not attempt was made to enter the trailer.“We heard the walking two more times during the night. Each time the footsteps seemed to go from the milk house to the direction of the farm house. Each time we stayed in bed, trying not to move or give ourselves away as being In the trailer. To look out of the dopr or window, we would have to move the drapes. We didn't do this. The knowledge of the door being ajar was my main concern at this time.“About an hour after we heard the last steps I noticed a slight gray cast showing In the trailer windows. Dawn was coming and it was getting lighter but there was still no normal night sounds. I then heard ray dog whimper like a puppy aboutsix times and then he -started to bark. I’m sure he had been immobile all night. A-s«jnd like a huge generator then came from the direction of the object, but quief or muffled. The sound faded after six to eight seconds. ; ,“I then got out of. bed, went to the door, and looted out. The object was gone, my dog appeared normal, the cows were in the neighbor's pasture, and everything seemed like nothing had happened. The birds were chirping and all the normal noise and sound had come back.”
