Clues Sought In Murder, DecapitationSAN FRANCISCO )AP) -Police were seeking clues today in the expert decapitation of a man whose body was found in Golden Gate Park.The body of Leroy Carter Jr., 29, was found in a sleeping bag near Alvord Lake on Sunday. The head was not found despite an extensive search of the area, and authorities speculated the slaying may have been a ritualistic killing.“It appears the victim was sleeping in the bushes... when person or persons unknown to us at this time came along and decapitated him,'* said Sgt. Mike Pera.Two kernels of corn and a chicken wing were found where the head would be, and the body of a chicken was found about 50 yards away, according to Officer James Dougherty, who found (he corpse.A deputy coroner said, “The cut was very clean, like an expert did it.”Carter had a police record and the body was identified through fingerprints, Pera said. He said investigators believed Carter had not been dead longer than 24 hours.Police said the instrument used to behead Carter may have been a sharp ax or a machete.Dougherty went to the rainy scene about noon after a young woman turned in a tan backpack spattered with blood. The backpack contained a black coat and two shirts.
