Margo Hustonto receiveBy-Line AwardMargo Huston, a Pulitzer Prize winner with The Milwaukee Journal and a member of the National News Council. will receive the 1980 By-Line Award of the Marquette University College of Journalism in ceremonies at the University at 4 P M Friday, Feb 29,Huston, a 1965 Marquette journalism graduate, was recommended for the award by the MU Journalism faculty The award was announced by James F Scotton. journalism dean Huston is the 68th recipient of the award which is given “in recognition of the performance of competent journalism through the years and the acceptance and fulfillment of journalistic responsibility.”Huston, now an editorial writer with the Journal, won the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for general local reporting for a series which focused on the plight of the elderly She joined the Journal in 1967 as a feature writer and later became a reporter for the paper's Spectrum section She was named an editorial writer in 1979 Huston has been a member of the National News Council since 1978 The Council is an independent investigative board aimed at maintaining a fair and free press Bassed in New York City, the council issues decisions on the validity of complaints brought against broadcast networks, magazines and newspapers Before joining the Journal, she was a reporter with the Waukesha Freeman She has been a journalism lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-W'aukesha and at Carroll College in Waukesha.Huston has received several other awards for her work, including two Penney-Missouri Newspaper Awards, one for the series recognized by the Pulitzer committee and the other for a series on abortion clinics Huston was named an “Outstanding Woman of the Community in 1977“ and received the “Merit Award of MU's Alumni Association in 1979
