X-Rated MovieHouse ReopensIn BurlingtonWhen Don Krontz of Michigan came to Burlington on Christmas Day he didn’t bring presents, he brought aset of keys.He came here to reopen Burlington’s only walk-in X-rated movie theatre.Now named the Cinema Blue Theatre, the X-rated movie house will be located where the former Joy Art Theatre had been, in Spoon Plaza on South Church Street. BurlingtonOn the marquee of the Cinema Blue Theatre, the name of Joy Art Theatre has been partly obliterated. The words “Joy Art” have been smeared out with a large blotch of blue paint.The Joy Art Theatre was closed following magistrate action on Aug. 2, after Trans-Lux Inflight Cinema Co. Ltd filed suit July 25 against the H M Cinema of Burlington Inc. in a small claims court actionOperators of the Joy Art Theatre, who had leased the movie theatre from Trans-Lux. were evicted for failure to pay rent, according to the suit. Small claims court action indicated that Sal Mideo was president of the defendant corporationKrontz had been preceded into Burlington by Julie Carrigan. On Dec 18, Carrigan purchased a privilege license from the Burlington tax department to operate the theatreCarrigan gave her address as 1809 S. Church St., Burlington, the same address as that of the Cinema Blue Theatre, when she applied for the privilege license Carrigan is also the operator of the Cinema Blue Theatre at 419 Eastway Drive in Charlotte, according to privilege license information.Krontz said Wednesday afternoon the Cinema Blue Theatre here “will be an adult theatre featuring X-rated movies.”He said he was here, temporarily, that he was “looking for a manager for the theatre.According to the marquee of the Cinema Blue Theatre, the opening date will be Friday with a special limited engagement of Gerard Damiano s “Deep Throat” along with the added attraction. “The Devil in Miss Jones.”The advertisement states that absolutely no one under 18 will be admitted to the two triple-X adult films When asked, Krontz declined to name the Michigan organization he represented, but he did say that organization has opened two other adult movie theatres in North Carolina in the past few monthsHe named the Charlotte theatre, and another theatre in Kannapolis The Kannapolis theatre opened Wednesday
