The rites were conducted jointly by Igloo -No. 4, Pioneers of Alaska, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and AmericanHegioa- . . , .Lander was a civic leader for many years in Fairbanks, coming to the city from ..Anchorage and Seward in 1932. He went into business here at that time and maintained an active interest in community affairs until ill health forced him to cut down.Lander had operated a barber shop in Anchorage in 1923 when he first came north shortly after his discharge from the army. In 1925 he moved to Seward.The Fairbanksan served 16JESS LANDEE—$tuiia One Photoyears in the Territorial Legislature and during his last term, 1940, was speaker of the House. He was active in Democratic circles for many years.Lander was a member of Igloo Ho. 4, Pioneers of Alaska, the VFW, American Legion, Fourth Division Democratic t Club and the Sons of the American Revolution.He is survived by his daughter in Fairbanks, Mrs. Betty Haynes, and three grandchildren, Sherie, Karen and Cynthia Haynes, and two sisters, Mrs. Loring Burns, King City, Calif., and Mrs. G. F. Hoy of Englewood, Calif.The pioneer Alaskan was horn in Nipoma, Calif., Feb, 15, 1892.Active pall bearers were Edby Davis, Phil Sundcuist, Leo Schlotfeldt, Tom Long, John B. Hall and Hrrie L. Hughes. Honorary pall bearers were Dr. Paul B. Haggland, David Adler, Robert Sheldon, Warren A. Taylor, Lasar Dworkin and Walter Sczudlo.
