TharpTfcKYO, Aug. 20 (SS)—Typhoon Grace, which appeared the Western Pacific a week ago leaving death and destruction in ita wake as it battered Okinawa and southern Japan, has completely dissipated over central Japan, Tokyo Weather Central reported today.The dying Grace, which was downgraded by weather observers yesterday from a tropical storm to a low pressure area, passed Tokyo at 3 p.m. yesterday with rain and winds clocked at '47 miles an hour. The low pressure area today was drifting to the northeast and was not expected to cause any additional trouble, weathermen said.26 DeadKyodo News Service reported that Grace had left 26 dead, 70 injured and 34 persons missing since hitting southern Japan early Wednesday morning. Most of the destruction was reported from the Island of Kyushu.Earlier reports from Okinawa revealed that one person was killed and 11 injured when Grace struck that island fortress last weekend. Property damage there was minor.Damage in Japan included 1,331 houses destroyed, 24,444 houses flooded and thousands of acres of rice paddies inundated, Kyodo said. The Maritime Safety Board reported a total of 61 ships of all sizes sunk and two missing. The U.S. destroyer Rowan was dispatched Wednesday to search for the Ebisu Maru reported in distress in the East Chna Sea.Tourists StrandedIn a last bit of deviltry yesterday the erratic and waning Grace stranded tourists on Mt. Fuji and its winds prevented the American luxury liner President Cleveland from enteringYokohama Harbor.No damage to U.S. military installatons has been reported, but tent camps of the boy and girl scouts at Lake Motosu were blown down Wednesday night. None of the campers were injured.Meanwhile the “Voice of America' * reported that ten American families, including children, had been isolated since Sunday by typhoon damage at the Voice's million-watt radio transmitter on Okinawa.
