A decade ago, the Pan-Am Pool was the centre of Canadian diving. Don Webb, a transplanted Ontarian, headed the operation.A handful of divers lived with him and his wife. He would shuttle the team back and forth through the snow drifts on tlte way to and from practice. The Webb station wagon was always overloaded with young Canadians aspiring to become Olympians.Now Webb is back in town, as one of six national team coaches for Dive Canada, which starts with men’s tower preliminaries-at 7:30 tonight at the Pan-Am Pool.Men’s tower tomorrowThe meet continues with women's three-metre springboard preliminaries at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, followed by finals in men’s tower at 3 p.m. and women’s springboard finals at 4 p.m. Men’s springboard preliminaries start Sunday at 8:30 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. with women’s preliminaries with the men’s springboard finals at 3 and women’s tower finals at 4 in the afternoon.Things are verv different now, said Webb, who now resides in Quebec, coaching the powerful Potnte Claireteam.“The federal government has helped us to reach a healthy position in the world diving scene, he said.Sport Canada has provided $27,000 to help defray some of the cost with co-sponsor Free Press for Dive Cana-dii.
