Draper CommunicationsInc. (DCI) owns two other CBS affiliates, WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md., and KOAM-TV. which serves Pittsburg, Kan., and Joplin, Mo.KGBT-TV News Director David Merrill predicted the station’s operations will be “streamlined” under the new owners but said that no news department cuts are planned“We won’t be seeing any layoffs.” he said “We will do more and more with the same people, instead of adding more people ”At least four employees haveleft the station in recent months, but Promotions Manager Neil Canales asserted that the personnel changes were not forced by the Draper takeover.Canales said Draper did not plan major internal changes. But he said the sale of the station may have prompted some employees to reassess their job situationsMerrill indicated that there will be changes in management style, although that will not be visible on air. He also stressed that the station will be more competitive — an apparent response to local ratings.In the recent ratings. KGBT-TV has been pegged as the overall leader in news ahead of both KRGV-TV Channel 5 and KVEO-TV Channel 23.KGBT-TV won the 6 p m and 10 p m in the Arbitron ratings In the Nielsen ratings KRGV-TVwon the 6 p.m., while Channel 4 and Channel 5 tied in the 10 p.m., Canales said.Last year, however, Channel 5 generally received higher ratings, giving Channel 4 tougher competition than previously experienced.
