She went on to study for her master's degree at Columbia University Medical School, New York.She served her country during WW II in the Army Medical Corp from 1942 to 1943.It was during that period that she met her husband actor, Simon Oakland (now deceased). They were married for over 40 years. Lois went on to teach nursing at Norwegian Hospital for over five years and then became chief of nurses at Ravenswood Hospital in New York for five years:' After her career in nursing ended, she pursued her first love, creative writing.She, went on to sell many screenplays for TV and also published a novel. Lois corresponded with over 600 friends and relatives by letter every year. Her hobbies included painting, crocheting, and hooking rugs, as well as working in the garden.
