51 NATURALIZES AT ONE Slim FRIDAY BREAKING ALL RECORDSFayette county’s citizenry was in creased 51 Friday when that number were granted naturalization patters, breaking all records of the Fayette county courts for a single session of naturalization court. Judge J. Q. Vau Swearingen presided. Of the 85 persons 51 were accepted, 27 were denied ! and three were continued. United' States Examiner T. F. Schmuckerj questioned the applicants and their witnesses and in a session of c'ourt which lasted about an hour and a half, broke the previous record of the court, which was about 37. The applicants tor naturalization were more intelligent than the average and no time was lost in either passing or re-I jecting them. Court Crier Charles M. Fee acted as clerk, administering the' oath to the applicant and his two wit- { nesses. In one or two instances the! witnesses had failed to have their own naturalization papers and a trip home' was the result. The witnesses were compelled to know the applicant five years and vouch for his reputation.In the morning when the examiner put the applicants through a test he' received many amusing answers. Onej I man admitted that he was in favor of I anarchy and polygamy. The majority i were well versed in the name of the1 president and few gave the wrong! answer to that question. At the close of the naturalization court Prothono-{ tury William McClelland and his^ clerk Charles M. Fee, Jr., had a busy! time issuing the the papers.
