©tDDTfOD/Hii .§ □□□Glenn and Orla MabonGlenn Irving Mabon was bom on March 31, 1929 to proud parents Carl and Reta and a brother for Ruth. If Glenn had been born one day later he would have had the same birthday as his dad.Glenn grew up on the family farm and attended school in Neelin. He often told stories of getting the horse harnessed up, hitched to the sleigh and off to school and of course once at school he had to make sure the horse was fed and watered. As a young man he enjoyed playing hockey, curling and Calf Club.Glenn raised Black Angus cattle; he thoroughly enjoyed his herdsman days and often showed his prized cattle at the Brandon Fair Exhibition. Glenn farmed together with his dad, later on buying 31-3-14 with Garland Reta retiring to Killarney.Orla Isabel Moffat was born July 10, 1933 at 5:45 a.m., to Percy and Isabel, joining Verna and Mervin in the Moffat family. At the age of 6 months Orla became seriously ill with whooping cough and this affected her development; her head seemed to grow larger, while her arms and legs remained small and skinny and at the age of 1 she could not sit up by herself. She was taken to a chiropractor in Sarles, N.D. where she received a total of 27 treatments and by 1937 was greatly improved although her lower left lung had been damaged and she would frequently get pneumonia and had a persistent cough for the rest of her life. Orla attended Enterprise and Killarney School and went to Briercrest Bible School at Caronport, Saskatchewan for 3 years. After graduation in April 1952 Orla went back to work as a telephone operator in Killarney for the Manitoba Telephone System. As the story goes, “back in the day” there were “two very skilled match makers” that persuaded Orla Moffat and Glenn Mabon to “step out together”. June 25th, 1955 was the day that Glennand Orla became husband and wife. To this union was born 4 children. The years were filled with farming in the growing season and Glenn going trucking in the winter. In 1982 they bought a restaurant in Killarney, named it the Great Oaks and ran it successfully for seven seasons with Glenn eventually becoming the cook while Orla prepared the salads and made the pies.Orla worked as a Nurses Aide at the Lakeview Home in Killarney for 10 years; then when she and Glenn moved to Red Deer in 1989(to be closer to their kids and grandkids) she worked at Red Deer Nursing Home and was also a companion for Seniors with ‘Nannies for Grannies'. During their time in Red Deer, Glenn volunteered his time at the ‘Bibles for Missions Thrift Store', where he quite enjoyed his role of ‘repair guy' and ‘pick-up delivery man'. After living in Red Deer for 22 years they moved back to Killarney in June of 2012... back to ‘roots'.Dad's health had not been good for a year or more, but on March 29th of this year he received the news that he had cancer and he entered into his last phase of life. It was a long and difficult 11 weeks but on Thursday, June 23rd at 7:50 a.m. Glenn Irving Mabon passed on to his heavenly home at the Tri-Lake Health Centre at the age of 87 years.Mom as well, had not been feeling good for several months, but with Dad being sick most of her energy went into caring for him. It was after Dad's funeral on June 28th that she became very ill; she went into the Tri-Lake Health Centre on July 5th and on Tuesday, July 19th at 12:45 Orla Isabel Mabon went to meet her Heavenly Father and her husband who had predeceased her by 26 days. We, their family, are devastated at this loss but take comfort in the fact that they are re-united in heaven and are free from their suffering and pain. They will be sadly missed by their children and spouses, Kerrilea Larry Wiebe; Gayle Deb DaVaughn; Karen Richard Dame; Darlye Laura Mabon; grandchildren, Shawnasey Ross, Carly Hailey Dame, Jared Myles Wiebe; great-granddaughters Osean Dalyn Ross. Also mourning their loss is Glenn's sister Ruth Stephenson; Or la’s sister brother-in-law Verna Bob Patterson; sister-in-law Dorene Moffat; brother sister-in-law Stanley Lois Moffat as well as those who called them Uncle, Aunt, cousin and friend. They were predeceased by their parents and by Grant Stephenson and Mervin Moffat.Memorial services were held: for Glenn on Tuesday, June 28th at the Calvary Baptist Church, Killarney, MB; and for Orla on Tuesday, July 26th at the C.E. Centre, Killarney, MB. Private interments took place prior to the services at the Killarney Cemetery (older section).“Those we love are with the Lord, and the Lord has promised to be with us. If they are with Him and He is with us, they cannot be far away.” Peter Marshall.
