SAMUEL M. TAYLOR ISDEAD AT WASHINGTONHad Represented Sixth Arkansas District in Congress Since His Election in 1912.Washington, Sept. 13.—Representative Samuel M. Taylor, of Arkansas, died at his home here early today after an illness of several weeks with pleurisy and pneumonia.Prior to contracting pneumonia, Representative Taylor, who was 69 years of age* had been in declining health for several months and had not attended sessions of the House since about July 1.Elected to the sixty-second congress in 1912 to fill the unexpired term of Joseph T. Robinson, now senator, following his election to the governorship, Representative Taylor represented the sixth Arkansas district in Congress continuously up to the time of his death. He was ranking Democratic member of the rivers and harbors committee and devoted much of his attention to legislation coming before that committee.Pine Bluff, Ark., Sept. 13.—Congressman Samuel M. Taylor, who died at Washington today, was appointed member of Congress in 1913 to succeed Joe T. Robinson, now United States senator from Arkansas, when the latter was elected governor of the state. He had been a practicing lawyer here since 1886, coming from Ia-wamba county, Mississippi, where he was bom in 1852.Congressman Taylor is survived by his widow, two sons, Chester, his secretary, Daniel, attorney for the Rock Island railroad at Chicago, and two daughters, Mrs. Hubert Strange and Mrs.. Will Nichol, of Pine Bluff.Little Rock. Sept. 13.-~Govemor T. C. McRae will call a special election to name a successor to the late Congressman Taylor. A special democratic primary also may be called. The sixth district which Congressman Taylor represented is composed of Arkansas, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Garland, Grant, Hot Springs, Jefferson, Lincoln, Lonoke and Saline counties.
