Grimes died toplght at49:50 o'clock at the city hospital after an illness of several days of paral3*i?ls. Mr. Grimes was 80 years of age and had lived la Columbus a half oenturjJ. Me was a member of the famous 'Nelson rangers, going to the front in 1863 Immediately after his graduation from the University of Georgia, He represented this county in the legislature four years after the war and as a member -of. the Bullock legislature was, with other* democrats, forced out of the legislature. Later, when It was charged that he did. not represent the sentiment of his constituents in, some pending Issue, ho resigned. .Me was a candidate in the‘special election ordered by the governor and was reelected representative by the people of Muaoogce county by a. large majority. He served several years in the senate. Afterwards he was solicitor of the Chattahoochee circuit four yehrs. H represented the fourth Georgia district (n congress from 1886 to 1890; was^a. ittember of wjvotaI law firms, his ^ist copartnership being with the late Judge Mark H; Bland ford. Mr. Grimes was unmarried. One brother, Lr. George Grimes, survive hid.
