Elimination of noise is an important factor during any concert ami those arriving late should be required to wait outside the main auditorium until the number which is being played has been concluded.t#1--• # *ft i •tt,[iWe are grieved to learn of thedeath last Friday of the Rev. Father Cyril Van der Donckt who passed away in a San Diego hospital following an operation for a stomach ailment. As priest for St Joseph’s parish he was closely associated with the early life of Pocatello, and he was respected and loved by all with whom he came in contact. Father Van der Donckt was of a deeply religious nature and much of his thoughts along these lines us embodied in a book of poems which he had published. copies of which are owned by many of his Pocatello friends and admirers.thtfItitHe was bom in Belgium in 1865 and ordained at Louvain. June 24, 1887. Father Van der Donckt paid his first visit to Pocatello on June 24. 1888.With the purchase of a Pocatello townsite by the government from the Fort Hall Indian reservation in 1889. the Rev. Van. der Donckt supervised erection of the first parochial school, a $7,000 structure completed in 1892. One of the two schools in Pocatello, the undertaking was financed l the main through a substantial donation by Father Van der Donckt and contributions by Po-c.itellans. *Father Van der Donckt was later instrumental in erecting the present St. Joseph's Catholicchurch (he had supervised erection of the first church prior to the government townsite purchase), the expansion and development of St. Joseph’s parochial school and the church-financed St. Anthony’s hospital completed hi 1918. , v -The parishes of Idaho Falls, Blackfoot. Rexburg and St. Anthony trace their histories to missionary visits by the kindly priest. Montpelier parish also became existent under his direction.
