Isabel Maitland StewartWINNIPEG (CP)—The death in Chatham, N.J. last Saturday of Isabel Maitland Stewart, 85, once voted the most famous nurse in the world,” was disclosed here Wednesday. Born in Morden, Miss Stewart trained at the Winnipeg General Hospital in 11)00. She was a supervisor at the General and later director of nursing at Columbia University. During the 1930s, j she toured the world to make a survey of nursing. For her innovations hi nursing methods,he American Nurses* Association honored her with the title “the most famous nurse in the world.” She received a medal for her humanitarian work from the government of Finland, and the International Red Cross Florence Nightingale Award.In 1956, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba. Miss Stew* art is survived by two sisters: Helen of Victoria and Mrs. William C. McKillican of Ottawa.
