Funeral MondayForV▼Mass of Christian Burial for William Vernon Bates, 32. 224 Valiev Wav, Fima, formerV • *resident of Cambridge, who was apparently murdered shortly after his disappearance on Sept. 3, will be celebrated at 10 a.m.Mondav at Saints Peter and*Paul Catholic Church, Lore City. Celebrating the Mass will be the Kev. Fr. DavidKeasbeck.Officiating at the committal service during the Mass, will be Kvan. Abe Miller. Burial will bein Guernsey Memorial Cardens.Friends may call at ScottFuneral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. today and 2 until 4 and 7 tt 9 p.m. Sunday where Christian Wake Services will bo conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday.Mr. Bates was found in a wooded area east of Lima about noon Thursday (Nov. 28. 19741 and Dr. William Noble, Allen County coroner, ruled the death due to strangulation.Mr. Bates had been missing since he left home the evening 1 of Sept. 3 to do some work at hisOhio Power Co. office in Lima * where he was an accountant-V. BatesHis car, driven by murder suspect Paul Knowles, was located later in Florida.Born April 19, 1942 in Mid-dlebourne, Mr. Bates was the son of Vernon and Viola Albaugh Bates, Cambridge K.D. 4.supervisorHe had attended St. John’s Catholic Church, Lima and was a 1960 graduate of CambridgeHigh School.In addition to his parents, Mr. Bates leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Anna Skonce, a native of Did Washington, whom he married Nov. 30, 1963.He also leaves one daughter, Theresa, and two sons, Gregory and Bobby, all of the home;three sisters, Mrs. Betty Ann Carpenter, Dresden, Mrs. Vivian Smith, Cambridge K.D. 4 and Mrs. Charlene Brown, Cambridge; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bates. Quaker City and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Albaugh. 612 N. Ninth St.Mr. Bates’ wife and her three children moved to the home of her mother. Mrs. Mary Skonce, Old Washington, two weeks after lie failed to return home.
