The funeral of the artist, WilburW. Woodward, took place at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Monday. The body accompanied by the brother and the father of the deceased arrived at the Plum streetdepot at i ;20 in the afternoon and was met by ex-Gov. Noyes and a committee of artist students fromthe School of Design, at the head of which was Prof. William Humphreys, Superintendent of the School. Quite a number of friends accompanied the remains to Spring GroveCemetery, where many well-known artists and all of the teachers and scholars of the School of Design, many of whom studied under Woodward, awaited them, and joined in the services at the grave. As the casket was lowered into the grave, flowers were strewn upon it and Gen.Noyes, stepping to the head, in a few well-chosen and eloquent words bade a last farewell to the deceased,extolling his many virtues, remarking as to his great talent and prospeota for the future had it pleased his Maker to spare him. A largenumber of artists were present. The floral tributes were various and beautiful.Galignani’s Messenger, published at Paris, Monday, April 10, speaking of Wilbur Woodward, «ays:“We regret to hear of the death ofa most promising young Americanartist, Mr. Wilbur Winfield Woodward, who was one of tlie favoritepupils of Robert Fleury. While in Paris he worked a good deal tor the illustrated papers, Le Mohde Illustre, LTlluscration, etc. tor which he did some admirable plates. At the same time he painted pictures andexhibited at the salon of 1879 ‘UneCour de Vieux Paris,' and at the salon of 1880 ‘Ossiau,’ both of which pictures gave great promise and showed much skill in drawing and imagination in composition.
