Walter E. KohrsWalter E. Kohrs, 83, of 409 E. Arcadia, Peoria, 111., died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 1991, at Proctor Community Hospital, Peoria.Born April 5, 1908, in Burlington, he was the son of Christopher J.H. and Marie Wilhelm Kohrs. He married Edna L. Zummach Feb. 8, 1935, in Burlington.He had served on the news staff of the Burlington newspaper, The Daily Hawk-Eye Gazette, moving to Peoria in 1941 where he joined the news staff of the Peoria Star and Peoria Journal Transcript. In 1943, he joined R.G. LeT-ourneau, Inc. to edit their external magazines and to manage the company news bureau. He accompanied LeTourneau to his colony Tournata in Liberia, West Africa, in 1953. He was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, a professional journalistic fraternity, and the North Sheridan Baptist Church where he was church clerk for 25 years. He served 25 years on the publication board of his denomination, the North American BaptistConference and on the President’s Committee of North American Baptist Seminary, Sioux Falls, S.D.Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth Kohrs, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Thomas Kohrs, LaGrange, 111.; one daughter, Mrs. Gretchen (Sam) Amick, Peoria, 111.; two brothers, Karl Kohrs and Don Kohrs, both of Burlington; and seven grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wright Salmon Mortuary in Peoria.The service for Mr. Kohrs will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wright Salmon Mortuarywith the Rev. John C. Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
