Elston, Anne C.LANCASTER - Anne C. Elston, age 89, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, April 18. 2001, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. She was horn January 2, 1912. in Lancaster, the daughter of George B. and Katharine F. (Barber) Clementson. On june 10, 1994, she married A.C.V. Elston II in Muscoda. Anne's life beyond her family was devoted to education and teaching. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Beloit College. Her first teaching position was in Muscoda. where she met and married her husband. During the onset of World War II, Anne and her husband moved to Kewanee, 111., and later to Detroit, Mich. In 1948 they moved the family to Lan-caster. Anne spent a period of time working as an editor and feature writer for the Independent, which later merged with the Herald to become the current Grant County Herald Independent. After rearing her sons. Anne re-established her teaching credentials and earned a master's degree in English at UW-Platteville. She began teaching in the English, speech and drama department at Lancaster High School in 1961, retiring in 1977. She was very highly regarded by her students and many remember her dra-matic presence. Surviving Anne are two sons. A.C.V. “Van (Mary) Elston III. M.D. LaCrosse, and Joel Allen Barber (Mary) Elston. Ph.D., Easton, Penn.; four grandchildren, Katharine (Commander J. Christopher) Sinnett, Exeter, N.H., Susan Anne Elston (Patrick N. Graham), Savannah, Ga., Christopher Morse Elston, Allentown, Penn., and Helen Anna Elston. Falls Church, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Allison Sinnett; loving nieces and nephews; and a sister, Helen Mary Knapp. Oakland, Calif. Preceding her in death were her husband, on September 20. 1980; a grandson A.C.V. Elston IV; two brothers, George and Lawrence Clementson: and a sister, Susan Weidman. A memorial service will be held atLANCASTER CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH Saturday,June 16, 2001. An informal reception by the family at the church will begin at 1 p.m., with the service at 3 p.m. bv the Rev. Mark Dieter, and interment at Lancaster Hillside Cemetery to follow.
