Maekay Yanagisawa, founder of the Hula Bowl and the Aloha Bowl college football games, died recently in Honolulu following a long illness. He was 87. His family asked that no information be released.He began his career in 1935 as a salesman for a sporting goods company, Yanagisawa was manager of the old Honolulu Stadium and later Aloha Stadium.Yanagisawa, who also managed several Hawaii baseball leagues, sold the Hula Bowl in 1974 to Gannett Corp. The game was later given to the University of Hawaii Foundation.
