NEWS IN BRIEF.Up to tlie end of January over 20,000 trade unionists in Australia had enlisted.Football associations in Australia have decided to present medals to all playing members who have volunteered for the Expeditionary F o rce s.The Canadian Northern Railway earnings show an increase over the previous year, the April net earnings being $74,800 over the same month in 1914, an increase of over 18 per cent. The increase in the March net earnings was $62,600.The Hon. P. McBride, A gent-General for Victoria, has received authority to make payments of £21,500 to the National Committee for Relief in Belgium and £1500 to the Serbian Relief Fund, on behalf of the various funds raised by the people of the State he represents.Edward Barnes Borrou, who died in Toronto recently, aged 95, made the early explorations ofthe country bordering on James Bay for the Government of Ontario. He made trips to James Bay in 1832, 1884, and 1887, passing through country that is now traversed by the National Transcontinental Railway, and in which many settlers are locating.The Hon. Peter McBride, Agent-General forVictoria, entertained at luncheon yesterday at the Royal Automobile Club the following ladies and gentlemen to meet the Right Hon. Sir Edmund Barton, a judge of the High Court of Australia, and Miss Barton, and to say good-bye to Surgeon-General Williams, C.B., upon his return to the Australian Imperial Force in Egypt: —Mrs. Williams, Miss Williams, Sir George H.
