Originally intending to follow the sea as a proie-don. he abandoned that i»|. .1. and alter a lew year* in a publishing office studied an in London Antwerp, and Paris. At the suggestion O the late Mr W. Burges, KA. Mr. Westlake went as a de-Mgncr to the Virni of glass painters of which he afterward* brcame art manager and partner, and subsequently proprietor He was a member of the original Committee of the Arts and Craft* Society, the British and American Archeological Society oi Rome, and other bodies, and was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy.Mr. Westlake's art work is to be found in many cathedrals and chapels in tireat Britain, and also in Ireland and America. Among a great number of separate pieces of painting or design from his hand may he mentioned the decoration 01 the roof and the painted Stations of the Cross in the chapel of Maynooth College; another set of Stations, which he executed for St. Francis', Notting Hill, were the tirst Stations ever painted by an Englishman. Among Mr. Westlake* writings on art subjects are:—“History and Design in Painted Glass, History and Design in Mural Painting,” Portraiture of St. Francis. and other works. He contributed also to various publications, and edited parti of manuscripts in the British Museum. R I.P.
