W. H. Gaston Is ! Dead At DallasDALLAS, Tex., Jan. 25.—W*) — Captain William Henry Gaston, 8$, founder of one of the flret banks ever operated In Dallas county and for more than half a century prom*’ Inently identified with the develop*I ment of the city, died at the home jof his son, Robert K. Gaston, at 9:20 p. m. Monday Captain Gaston enlisted with two brothers in the Confederate army In 1861. At the battle of 8harpe* burg almost the whole of his company was wiped out and 83 per cent of his brigade was wounded. He was the only one of the three ' brothers who returned from thewa r. T; • * 1; ]Born In Wilcox county, Alabama,! the future banker came to Texas with his family at the age of 9. He became Interested In railroad and street car development of the ! city of Dallas and was known as the father of the Mate fair.Three eons, Edwin, Rooert K. and W. H. Gaston, Jr., ail of Dallas, and two daughters, Mrs Laura Gaston Finley of Detroit and Mrs. Annie Gaston Reaves of Princeton survive.
