Nina Mary Elizabeth West ComstockNina Comslock died on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the Blue ^dge Hospice. She was born on February 4,1912 at North Bend, a log^ng camp, Pocahontas County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rebecca Shaver West of Richwood, West Virginia and Crozet, Virginia. Nina West married Hugh Clinton Comstock in 1929 in Richwood, West Virginia. Hugh predeceased her on September 1,1990.Nina was a member of the First Baptist Church, Winchester, Virginia. She was a member of the Richwood, West Virginia and Winchester Rebekah Lodge, the local Home Demonstration Club, and a long time volunteer at the Winchester Senior’s Center.Nina was a beautiful mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother who loved and doted on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; all of whom will truly miss her love and inspiration. We will miss hearing those prolonged prayers for family, friends, and our political leaders coming from her bedroom each night, a result of her sharp, clear, and exceptional mind. She was the family’s “living directory” to the very day of her passing.She was an expert at cross-stitch, producing many outstanding samplers and other art work.Nina had eight brothers, all ‘ deceased, and two sisters;Irene Schumann of Dover, Delaware, and Mildred Woods of Baltimore, Maryland.Nina’s daughter, Joan Ellen, a retired school teacher and her husband, James Perialas, live in Columbus, Ohio. Son, Lowell Ray, a retired executive and chemist with Union Carbide, and his wife, Nita Wallace Conistock, live in Franklin,.Tennessee. Son, Dr. H, E. “Gene”, a retired Winchester dentist, and his wife, Shelby Sevy Comstock, live in Frederick County, Virginia. Son, Douglas Keith, a retired U.S. Air Force officer and retired CEO and owner of Triune Computer and also Michah Systems, Inc., and his wife, Susan Haga Comstock, live in Ocala, Florida. Her eldest son, Hugh Clinton Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, a retired jeweler, died in March of 2007.During her latter years, Nina’s kind and caring friend and nurse, Marge Payne, was aconstant and much loved help to her.Nina had eight grandchildren: Karen Comstock and husband, Kevin Dostaler, of Brentwood, Tennessee, Deborah Comstock, of Sacramento, CA, Michael Comstock and wife, Julie, of Brentwood, TN, Elizabeth “Beth Comstock and husband, Chris Travers, of Weston, CT, Matthew Comstock and wife, Stephanie, of New Town, PA, Susan Comstock and husband, Matthew, of Front Royal, VA, Keith Comstock and wife, Sharon, of Cross Lanes, WV, and David Comstock and wife, Carey, of Morgantown, WV.Nina had 17 great-grandchildren: Alex, Patrick and Jack Dostaler, Emily and Caroline Comstock, Katie Manderfield, Meredith Travers, Christopher and Madison Comstock, Megan, Cristina, and Matthew Tederick, Carey, Margaret and Andrew Comstock, and Ian and Chloe Comstock.Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend George Fletcher officiating.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.Nina’s interment beside Hugh and Hugh Jr. will be in the Mountain View Memorial Park Richwood, West Virginia on Thursday, at 2:00 P.M.Nina's family will forever be gratefully indebted for the incomparable tender care with much love given during her extended illness by every staff member and volunteer of the Blue Ridge Hospice; and by her physician.
