In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by a son, John R. (Cathy) Robertstad of Adrian, Michigan; a daughter, Linda (Ken) Dresang of Madison; five loving grandchildren, Nathan, Stephanie, and Lauren Robertstad of Adrian, Michigan, and Andrew and Sarah Dresang of Madison; two brothers, Gordon (Janice) Robertstad of El Paso, Texas, and Glenn (Hildegard) Robertstad of Madison; two sisters, Harriet Long of Norman, Oklahoma, and Vivian Knudsen of Chesapeake, Virginia; a brother-in-law, BernardRefvik; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Refvik; and brothers-in-law, Arthur Knudsen, and Ernest Long. He was born on July 22, 1923 in Monroe County, Wisconsin to Preymer and Dessie (Sutherland) Rynes, on the Sutherland Farm. He was raised in Johnny Cake, near Mt. Tabor, in Vernon County. In 1947, he married Marie Collins at the Mt. Tabor Catholic Church. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 to fight in World War II. He is a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. Floyd and Marie had ten children. Floyd loved to farm with his sons. He worked for Ed Kraemer and Sons for 24 years until he retired in 1986. Floyd is survived by his wife. Born in Madison, she lived with her husband, Odell “Tally” Taliaferro and her mother, Elsa Shivers, in the Greenbush area of Madison until the neighborhood was demolished in the 1960s. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1934 with a B.S. in Zoology. She worked at the Wisconsin Bureau of Vital Statistics for many years. After retiring from that job* her long-time interest in medicine prompted her to come out of retirement to work on a cancer registry at University Hospitals. Her main job, however, was working with her late husband Tally in the many causes they were interested in, especially human and animal rights, as participants in such organizations as the NAACP, the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights, and the Dane County Humane Society. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Hartshorne of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Oscar Shivers of Missouri; a sister, Adeline Van Dort of Madison, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. A memorial service will be held at the FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Drive at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January, 22.
