He also' becr.me active In .the Washington Stale Chamber of Commerce and was president several years. The Washington Good Roads aHginltrai was another of his major interests-.Framed City Charter He was otic of the )5 .freeholders wno framed the Bellingham city charter; for eight, years .was - a trustee of ,the Columbia Basin Irrigation* project; and. iti 1026 v/as president of the Northwest Rivers and Harbors congress.He was a director of the National Foreign Trade _counc 11, as-lumber’s represent a live, and in 1928 he made a special study of this country's trade - with ‘the Orient during, an Oiietital tour with Mjt. , Donovan.
