John H. Iferd, was born in Boons borough, Washington, County, Mary land Sept. 24th 1826 and died Dec. 28th 1904, aged 78 years, 3 months, 4 days. He lived in Maryland until he was 26 years old when he came to Ohio locating in Franklin, Warren County. He was married to Mary J. Mapes April 6th 1856. 12 children blessed this union 9 of whom are living and were at the bedside of their father during his last illness. Mr. and Mrs. Iferd moved to Evansport Dec. 5th 1863, where they have since resided. Mr. Iferd was a mason by trade and followed this vocation of life until May 30th 1897 when he was taken down with paralysis confining him to his home until his death, all through these years he bore his suffering with patience and welcomed the end. As the Lord had spared his vocal organs he could converse with his family and friends and was always glad to have them come and visit him. Last Saturday morning he got up as usual but did not have anything to say, as the forenoon passed away it was discovered that he had received his death blow, but lingered along until Wednesday morn ing when he passed to his reward. Leav ing a widow, children,a number of grand children and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. The funeral was held Friday forenoon at the M. E. Church conducted by Rev. G. W. Sowers. The remains were laid to rest in the Evansport Cemetery. Those present from out of town were Dr. D. W. Iferd and Miss Kate Mapes of Toledo, C. Arnold and family, Mrs. Deli Kunkle of Bryan, J. H. Hockman and wife of Defiance, Adam Ackerman and wife of Holgate, Abe Miller, wife and daughter Miss Celia Snider of Ney, Samuel Mapes of Ohio City. CARD OF THANKS. We desire to extend to our friends and neighbors our heart felt thanks for the kindness shown us during the illness and death of our husband and father.
