Pilot DiesAs Result Of CrashA pilot died and hit employer was Injured Monday as the result of the crash of a light aircraft In the lava beds area of the Umbo Mountains,, about 35 miles east of Gerlaeh.Dead on arrival at Washoe Medical Center was Walter R„ Lowell, 46, a professional pilot, of Fort Bidwel, Calif,His employer, John Espil, 44, of Eagievllle, Calif,, a sheep rancher, escaped from the wreckage with only minor Injuries.Washoe County sheriffs officers said that both men were extricated from the downed aircraft by two unidentified sheepherdert.Lowell, alive at the time, was given emergency treatment in the Gerlaeh area, but he died en route to the Reno hospital.Espil told medical attendants that he and Lowell had been scouting sheep from the aircraft when the accident oc-. eurred. Espil said the plane was making a turn, very close to the ground, when it suddenly slipped to earth and crashed. The accident occurred between 9 and 10 a.m.
