OPAL M. POHLLAWRENCE — A funeral service for Opal M. Pohl, 93, Lawrence, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church here. Burial is to take place at the Worden Cemetery.She was born Jan. 3,1905, in Franklin County to Frank and Lula (Stover) Steen. She attended school at Baldwin and was graduated from Vinland High School in 1923. She attended Baker University and Emporia Teachers College, She taught school for several years in Douglas and Franklin County schools. Later she worked inthe meat and deli department of Rusty’s IGA for 25 years, until retiring in 1975. She hadlived at Lawrence since moving there from Baldwin in 1944.She married Ernest A. Pohl on May 1, 1928, at Ottawa. He preceded her in death in 1964.Survivors include: two daughters, Laurine Kersch, of the home, and Mary Ann Corbin, Lawrence; a son, Marvin E. Pohl, Topeka; a brother, Orliff L. Steen, Manhattan; a sister, Geneva VanValkenburg, Montezuma; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchiidren.The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Warren-McEIwain Mortuary, Lawrence.The family suggests memorial contributions to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence, to be left in care of the mortuary.
