►Judge Thomas Canty died in Cur-rantinha, Brazil, recently. He was born in England in 1854. When he was a few years old he eaine with his parents to Iowa and settled on a farm in Stapleton township, Cliicka-saw county, near Lawler. Tom spent his boyhood days, on the farm and later taught school in the home district Later he went to Minneapolis, where he was elected judge of the state supreme court. Prom there he went to Brazil and acquired a lot of land. He entered into colonizing projects and developed plantations. About a year ago Judge Canty became lost in an exploration trip and was three days without food or water. Prom this experience he did not fully recover and his death is attributed to that hardship. Many of his relatives still live in northern Iowa.
