GalpinThe death is announced of Mr. Thomas Dixon Galpin, which occurred in London, on the 25th inst. Although not a resident of this city, Mr. Galpin may be classed as one of its pioneers, for he invested in Victoria realty as far back as the liO’s, and showed his faith in the future of the city by building upon the land thus acquired. Among the buildings erected by him were those occupied by the B. C. Land and Investment Agency, Challoner Mitchell, Mr. John Cochrane, the B. O. Hardware Co., and the King .Edward hotel. He also owned large ranches on the mainland, lie was one of the founders of the great publishing house of Cassell . Co., Ltd., and for many years was the successful managing director of this business.Two of his daughters reside here. One is the wife of Mr. J. I). Prentice, formerly finance minister of British Columbia, and now manager of the Western Canadian Ranching Co., and the other the wife of Mr. C. A. Holland, manager of the B.C. Land and Investment • Agency. Both of the enterprises just named were founded by Mr. Galpin. Mr. Galpin was S2 years of age.--o--
