Simonds lor husband and two children, Mrs. Cite Liebert. of Milwaukee, and Dr. lamilton v ifi nd i ; : 1 ' vere at her bedside when she died shortly after 1 a. m. today.In the 71 years if her life. Mrs j j simonds had an extraordinary J 1areer. She was one of the first six j r vomen graduates of the University i *f Wise insin Lavt slt; hlt; I «ini ing : ter degree there when she was only j 8 years old. Her mother, the late \ jdrs. Kate Pier, was the second wo- 1 1nan lawver in Wisconsin lt;Mrstobert M. LaFollette. Sr.. was the irst. Both of her sisters were law- j *; rcrs and her father, the late Col. 1 rolwert Pier, was a veteran of the J a Tivil war. a prominent Fond du Lac tanker and a pioneer in the state's umber industry.Mrs. Simonds was born Harriet lamilton Pier in Fond du Lac. Wis.. j in April 26. 1872. J t,Mrs Simonds first came to Rhine- | ander about the turn of the cen- J ^ ury when logging was at its height, j she was an expert tax title lawyer j w ind timber cruiser and rode the C( cabooses on the freight trains to j ^ jet into the hinterlands for esti- j g nating timber value. In 1926. the j Simonds family settled in this city, ! where they have lived ever since, j wShe married Charles Simonds in { t Milwaukee in 1905 The wedding j Q] was a social event widely chronicled I n( in the newspapers of the state Mr. j g-Simonds is an electrical engineer.He was graduated from the Univer- j ^ versity of Michigan. j )Active in C’lubs. 1In addition to the many legal as- 1 sociations of which she was a member. Mrs. Simonds was active in the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Portia club and the Rhinelander Woman's club. She was formerly treasurer of the Mil- I Ql waukee chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of Kappa Beta Pi. honorary women’s sorority, at the university. She was also member of the Congregational church here. £Mrs. Simonds was a vital person- ^ ality.
