• * *Professor Edgar Prcstage, who has died in London at the ago of 81, was the greatest modern authority on Portugal. He wrote many books on the country and translated several others. Agraduate of Oxford, he became .* corresponding member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the Spanish Academy of History and was elected a Fellow of the British Academy. Professor Prestage became a Catholic at the age of 17.
