OBITUARYMRS. JOHN SMITHMrs. John Smith, 73, died suddenly in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Peterborough on Sunday. The former Lila Lillian Gillis,she was born in Cavan township, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gillis and had lived her entire life in Bethany and vicinity. Since childhood she had been a faithful member of St. Paul’s Anglican chui’ch, sharing actively in the work of the church, Sunday school and Woman’s Auxiliary.Immediately surviving are her husband, John Smith, exreeve of Cavan township; three sons, Charles, Mervyn and Emory of Cavan; four daughters, Mrs. Carl Porteous (Iva), Mrs. Norman Braithwaite (Mildred) of Cavan; Mrs. Gordon Moffatt (Olive) of Bowman-ville, Mrs. Kenneth Braithwaite (Helen) of Cobourg and eleven grandchildren; John and Allan Moffatt of Bowmanvilie, Ross, Leora, Glen, Barrie and Murray Smith of Cavan; Fay and Catherine Braithwaite of Cobourg; Leon Braithwaite and Ray Porteous. Cavan; also two sisters, Mrs. Henry Smith of Bethany and Mrs. Roy Leach of Peterborough and three brothers, George Gillis, Bethany, Harry Gillis, Ida, Ira Gillis, Cavan.The funeral service held on Tuesday from St. Paul’s church in Bethany was largely attended. Rev. T. S. Gault spoke on Mrs. Smith’s cheerful personality, her devotion to her family and church, “her price is far above rubies. Her children arise up and call her blessed.” The choir were in attendanceand Mr. James Gay presided at the organ.Pallbearers were six nephews: Cecil Ward. William Smith, Henry. Jewison, Gerald Gillis, Ross Gillis and Douglas Leach.Bearing the many lovelyfloral tributes were George Dean, Bruce Smith. Percy Elgar, Wilbert Smith, George Neals, Robert Skuce, Carl Gillis, Jack Moffat, Allan Moffat, Barrie Smith, Murray Smith, Ross Smith and Glen Smith.Burial was in St. John’s Cem-etehy at Ida.
