She's showing her nonpolitica! sideChristmas’by Violeta AutumnddUSdlllO V.OUDlU»V'UI«li » »•olcta Autumn is showing a non-noiitieal side of herself this month in an exhibit of her paintings at the Tapia Ga.ler\ or Princess Street in Sausalito The show includes pieces done in silver leaf, silk screen, ink washes, fresco, leather collage and bass relief The exhibit opens Aug 26 and will run for several months Her earlier work, some done while she studied architecture at the University of Oklahoma from which she graduated in 19»3. features tortured, almost ghoulish faces, including one called Christmas.•*1 called it Christmas be cause of the colors which remind me of the holidays. I wasyoung then ana liKe everyone was going through some soul-searching. Mrs Autumn said This is her first exhibit in Marin, though she has shown her pieces in San Francisco and several times in galleries m Berkeley. She has worked as an artist for 30 years The pieces to be exhibited at the Sausalito Gallery are all wall hangings A recent piece is a bass relief in plaster which she describes as a three-dimensional fresco. She has studied medieval painting technique. some of which includes ingredients like buttermilk, eggs and garlic.In addttion to her service on the city council and her work as a painter. Mrs Autumn works as an architect
