• Death(Continued From Pag*; t)mg h i m s e i f William Bates bought plates for a car in Talladega, Ala. m mid-October.The search for Bates has continued locally and nationally since his disappearance, but his father, Vernon, of Rt 4, Cambridge told reporters last week he bad “given up hope ”He said lie was certain the son had been murdered and had no hope of finding him alive.About two weeks after Bate’s disappearance his wife and three children moved to the home of her mother near Cambridge.Shortly after the disappearance, Ohio Power Company division manager RL. Springer characterized Bates as a “very fine young man,” adding that an audit conducted after his disappearance was made “reluctantly” and only out of company policy. It revealed no discrepancies, Springer indicated.
