West German, Italian Guilty Of 10 MurdersVERONA, Italy (AP) - A West German and an Italian have been convicted of 10 murders claimed by a neo-Nazi group called Ludwig and sentenced to 30 years in jail.The sentences against Wolfgang Abel, 27, and Marco Furlan, 26, were issued after 12 hours of deliberations Tuesday night, following a three-month trial The two friends, both former students and residents of this north Italian city, were acquitted in five other murders for lack of sufficientevidence.Defense lawyers, who had entered pleas of innocence for both men, appealed the sentence.Court sources said Abel and Furlan, who did not attend the final hearing of the trial, were not givenlife terms for the multiple murders because both were described by court-appointed experts as mentally unstable.Abel and Furlan were accused of being members of Ludwig, which claimed responsibility for a series of ritual murders in leaflets containing the Nazi slogan “Gott mit uns” (God is with us).Abel and Furlan went on trial in December after two years and nine months in jail. They were arrested in March 1984 when they tried to set a crowded disco club afire at Castiglione delle Stiviere in northern Italy.The prosecution had charged them with 15 murders claimed by Ludwig since 1977.
