Police Lt Robert Helder said. But the weapon apparently was out of ammunition and he sped off as the officers fired four times but missed.Now being pursued. Bonner crashed into another vehicle at a stoplight, abandoned his car and commandeered another, jumping in and telling Mary Felton to keep driving. With Mrs. Felton were her two daughters, Ann. 12, and Karen. 10.A private security guard witnessed the switch in cars and joined police in pursuit, finally heading Bonner off at a nearby intersection as other police units arrived.In the ensuing exchange of gunfire during which Bonner used a handgun, the security guard. Versell Bennett, 58, was struck in the head and critically wounded. Mrs. Felton received a minor wound in the shoulder.Authorities said it was a bullet from a police officer's weapon which hit Bennett and that another police shot may have struck Mrs. Felton.Bonner finally was hit and taken into custody.
