Squad formed to help abduction probeCLINTON, Mo. — The Missouri Rural Crime Squad has been activated to join the search for a young woman who vanished April 4 from a grocery store parking lot in Clinton.“At this point, we’ve got a lot of leads, a lot of good information,” Tom VanZandt, crime squad spokesman, said Tuesday of the probe into the disappearance of Angela M. Hammond, 20. “We’rerunning down leads, but there is nothing at this point to report.”Clinton police asked for the crime squad activation “because we needed the help,” said Damon Parsons, a Clinton police detective. The crime squad is made up of about 30 officers from 15 counties — including city police, sheriffs deputies and the Highway Patrol.Hammond is the third woman to disappear from a store in an 80-mile radius since Jan. 19. Trudy Darby, 42, of Macks Creek, was found dead after she vanished from the store where she worked. Cheryl Ann Kenney, 30, was last seen Feb. 27 as she closed a Nevada convenience store.
