Veteran of the month honoredAnthony J. Franklino ofNorwalk will be named Veteran of the Month for October, in a ceremony conducted by Lt. Owen Fish Memorial Post 143, Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m., at Lawncroft Cemetery, Black Rock Turnpike. His flag will be flown for the month. Refreshments will follow at the Posthome.Franklino entered the U.S. Army in January, 1941 and was honorably discharged in October 1945, attaining the rank of corporal. He served with honor as a field lineman with the 192nd Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater.During overseas duty he earned the American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal.Franklino, who worked as a mason upon his return to civilian life, lived with his wife, Caroline Padula, in Norwalk, until he died in November, 2001.
