Local Unit Of Marine Corps League Will Sponsor Boys ClubMembers U tt* Ilobnes-WeUwr-ingtoo Detachment of the Marine C'orpi Legue voted their approval last Monday night to a proposal that the league sponsor a boys’ dub in Fort Pierce.Commandant Jack Maughan reported that the league bad been considering performing some kind of civic service for Fort Pierce and had decided on the boys* club because of the need for such an organization here.To begin with, Maughan slated, the club will primarily be a boxing club. However, he added, the scope of the club will expand as the facilities and interests of the members allow.An organizational meeting is scheduled for Monday night at 7:00 in the City Hall. All boys interested are asked to come to this meeting as well as adults or other civic bodies who have an interest in the youth ot the community.Names -and weights of boys who attend the first meeting will be taken so that boxing divisions may be formed in preparation for early workouts.League member Dick Luzier has been named director of the club. Luzier has had considerable experience with boys' clubs and was formerly director of the Tucker County, W. Va., Athletic Association. Luzier was a boxer at one lime.The league will purchase athletic equipment for the boys, Luzier reported, and they will be trained in scientific boxing according to present-day rules. “The emphasis,” Luzier stated, “will be on how well the match Is boxed, not on who wins the decision,” There will be a doctor present at all matches as well asthree judge* and a rtfrrft.While the program u beta* sored by the Marine Corp* Maughan added, any perm esled in boxing or with previoM# experience with the sport u wefcom# to assist in the program.Early programs will be held out*doors under the lights at a place tt be announced later. 'Two ArrestedFor Failure ToPay For MealAlleged failure to pay a check at a local restaurant, then - stealing tbe newspaper rack and coin box from in front of the establishment, caused two men to be placed in city jail early Saturday morning, one charged with investigation of petty larceny, the other with petty larceny and vagrancy.According to Investigating officers James Brileber and Henry RyaJs, the two men. George Henry Davis, 58. and Harvey Talbert, 40, entered Huber's Coffee Shop, Orange Avenue and Depot Drive, had coffee and doughnuts, then walked out, leaving washers and null on the counter lo pay Lhn check.They then picked up the newspaper rack and coin box outside and walked away. The two men were arrested at the Greyhound Bus Station by the officers and identified as the men who Had left without paying.The amount of the bill?Forty-two cents.
