Eisenberg of St. Louis andWarrenton, the crack 127th Airborne Engineer Battalion enteredthe fallen Japanese capital withforward elements of the famous11th Airborne Division. Thetriumphal entry of the veteranoengineer battalion climaxed 15months of hard combat from thejungles of New Guinea throughrain swept Leyte and strongly entrenched enemy forces on Luzoninto the heart of the Nipponesemetropolis.The St. Louis paratrooper hasbeen with the 127th Airborne Engineer Bdttalion since its activation at Camp Mackall in NorthCarolina in February 1943. Hejoined the unit at that time as acompany commander and waspromoted to Major prior to hisleaving the stated for duty overseas. During the bloody battlehe assumed command of the or- j'ganization and was promoted toLt. Col.Lt. Col. Eisenberg has beentwice decorated. He received theSilver Star when, in the face ofheavy enemy fire he entered theburning city of Manila to obtaininformation that was to later facilitate Its capture.
