Local HospitalMeets CrisisAs 13 EnterThe Greater Community hospital received 13 men taken off an extra passenger training going east Thursday afternoon suffering from ptomaine poisoning, and took care of them all without difficulty.The men, who had been working in the naval base at Pearl Harbor, had been eating chicken salad sandwiches and became seriously sick at Red Oak. The conductor of the train hurried on to Creston where he knew there was good hospital facilities, telephoning Dr. A. SBeatty to have an ambulance andautomobiles ready when the train arrived.Nurses w^ere prepared when the men arrived, and all were cared for in short order. None of the men is dangerously ill. Dr. Beatty declared.Thirteen other men who were also ill continued on the trip, as they were only slightly affected by the chicken sandwiches that all ate.One of the men taken to the hospital appeared to be well until he heard that others who had eatenthe sandwiches like himself weieill. Immediately he turned pale, cold sweat stood out on his forehead, and he was a real sick man from then on.Names of the men taken to the hospital are William Espigh, Lew-istown, Pa.; Orvid Myers, Lake Orion. Mich.; William White, Bedford, Va ; Alfred E. Carpenter Dodge, Mass.; James Asher, Jeff, Ky; Walter Peitrazak, Chicago. 111.; Joseph Klusek, Rochester, N Y.; Richard Griffin, Chicago II'.: John Scruton, Royalton, Wis.; Clyde Iver, Jackson, Mich : WilliamSewell, Chicago, 111 ; Henry De Marco, Somerset Center. Mass; Martin Svehla, Edwardsville, 111.Twelve of the men left the hospital at noon for the afternoon train but one remained for another day. j nurses reported at 2 o’clock thisafternoon.
