Flight-Lieutenant Ronald D. RobertsonRonald Robertson, candidate for the Coalition Government of Manitoba is a local boy, born and brought up on a farm in the Roblin district known as Cromarty. He attended Roblin high school and Collegiate taking up Grade XII. Aside from school Ronnie’s life was the farm along with other farm folk, he knew j the hard times of farming previous to the outbreak of war.Ronnie is a twin. Ronald and Donald are younger sons of YV. I H. Robertson, better known as Harry. He was bom after his j father returned from the first Great YY’ar, where he served with I the 8th Battalion, Winnipeg Rifles. Ronald and Donald both | wanted to fly as pilots when this last war broke out. Ronnie or “Skinny” as he was known to many wouldn't wait for his turn as a pilot however, and enlisted as a Wireless Airgunner. Graduating as a Sergeant W.A.G., he was sent overseas. After serving ^overseas with the R.C.A.F. through the Egyptian campaign against Rom me II and his desert rats, Ronald was loaned to the American Air Force Bomber group when they first landed in Africa as they had no exjterienced wireless air gunners. He made some 16 trips over enemy territory with them and did such good work that he was awarded the American Air Medal and bar, with Oak Clusters. The R.C.A.F. also gave him his commission and he was sent home on leave, flying from North Africa by way of South America to Canada and so home.After being home awhile, he asked for the course he had never forgotten alout, that of a pilot. He received his Pilot’s Wings and about the same time secured for himself a wife,' who was also a member of the R.C.A.F., a farm girl from Red Deer, Alta. Aixjut this time there was an over supply of trained pilots and Ronnie volunteered to go back as a W.A.G. So back he went, but shortly after this Germany decided she had had enough and more of the Allied Air, Sea and Land power folded up, and Ronnie along with others was sent home again. Ronnie is only one of five sons of Mr. and Mrs. \V. H. Robertson, who enlisted in the Armed Forces. Chris, in the army is still overseas; Nelson, with the R.C.A.F. is still in India; Harry Jr. was a pilot in the R.C.A.F. and was killed in a crash: Donald was a Pilot Instructor and is now farming in the Tummel district.A couple of weeks ago Ronnie was approached by a number of young veterans, business men, farmers and others to consider offering his services in another sphere. He agreed and was the the choice of the Coalition convention held in Roblin last week.
